As demolition crews begin tearing into the East Wing of the White House, critics have erupted over President Donald J. Trump’s plan to add a new 90,000-square-foot ballroom to the historic complex. But despite the noise, the project is entirely legal — and privately financed.

President Trump is NOT breaking or circumventing any Laws with the building of the new White House ballroom. This comes directly from National Planning Commission.

The East Wing—which is the location of President Trump's White House ballroom—is NOT an original part of the building (built in 1792), nor is there anything especially "sacred" about it. It was originally built as a temporary structure in 1902 by Theodore Roosevelt, and later in 1942, torn down and completely rebuilt by FDR to provide both security and space, serving served as a camouflage structure to conceal a newly installed underground bunker — officially called the Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC)—built beneath the East Wing after the Pearl Harbor attack. Interestingly enough, FDR also decided that THAT'S where the FLOTUS and her offices should be located (Hmm...).

In addition, President Trump's White House is being entirely funded through PRIVATE DONATIONS. No taxpayer dollars or federal funds are being used for the project. Donors include Apple, Google, Microsoft, Meta, T-Mobile, HP, Comcast, Amazon, Lockheed Martin, Booz Allen Hamilton, Palantir Technologies, NextEra Energy, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, and President Trump himself, just to name a few.

And, finally, here's a breakdown of the most significant structural and design alterations over the years, grouped by era and president:

🏛️ Early Foundations (1792–1850s)

George Washington (1789–1797)

* Commissioned the design (by James Hoban) in 1792, though he never lived there.

* Oversaw initial construction planning, site selection, and specifications.

John Adams (1797–1801)

* First to occupy the White House in 1800.

* The building was unfinished — walls unplastered, rooms unfurnished.

Thomas Jefferson (1801–1809)

* Added terrace colonnades on both east and west sides (now the East and West Wings’ ancestors).

* Installed indoor “necessaries” (toilets) and improved ventilation and heating.

* Laid out the White House gardens and grounds.

🔥 Rebuilding After War (1814–1829)

James Madison (1809–1817)

* The British burned the White House in 1814 during the War of 1812.

* The structure was a gutted shell.

James Monroe (1817–1825)

* Oversaw the reconstruction by the original architect James Hoban.

* Restored the mansion and added furnishings from France.

* Introduced the South Portico (1824).

Andrew Jackson (1829–1837)

* Added running water and central heating (primitive).

* Reinforced the porticos and interior structure.

🕯️ Victorian Additions (1840s–1890s)

Millard Fillmore (1850–1853)

* Installed the first White House library.

James Buchanan (1857–1861)

* Introduced the first greenhouse on the west terrace roof.

Ulysses S. Grant (1869–1877)

* Installed indoor plumbing and the first bathtub with running water.

Rutherford B. Hayes (1877–1881)

* Installed the first telephone (1879).

* The White House got electricity later, but Hayes began modernization.

Benjamin Harrison (1889–1893)

* Installed electric wiring, though the family was afraid to touch the switches.

* Added electric lights.

🏗️ Major Renovations Begin (1900–1940s)

Theodore Roosevelt (1901–1909)

* Commissioned Charles McKim (of McKim, Mead & White) for a full modernization (1902).

* Removed the Victorian clutter.

* Built the West Wing (housing staff offices).

* Built a temporary East Wing (as a guest entrance and cloakroom area).

* Moved the president’s office out of the main mansion.

William Howard Taft (1909–1913)

* Expanded the West Wing, adding the Oval Office (1912).

Woodrow Wilson (1913–1921)

* Installed the first press briefing area and made wartime expansions.

🧱 Structural Crisis and Reconstruction (1940s–1950s)

Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933–1945)

* Expanded and redesigned the West Wing (1933–34), moving the Oval Office to its current southeast corner.

* In 1942, tore down and rebuilt the East Wing, replacing the 1902 structure and including an underground bunker.

Harry S. Truman (1945–1953)

* Oversaw the complete gutting and reconstruction of the interior (1948–1952).

* The entire interior was removed and rebuilt with steel beams and concrete floors.

* Only the outer walls remained.

* Added the Truman Balcony on the South Portico (controversial at the time).

* Essentially created the modern White House interior structure.

🛰️ Modernization & Expansion (1960s–1990s)

John F. Kennedy (1961–1963)

* With Jacqueline Kennedy, launched the White House Restoration Project.

* Restored historical authenticity to rooms (period furniture, art, drapery).

* Established the White House Historical Association and curated its permanent collection.

Richard Nixon (1969–1974)

* Installed a bowling alley beneath the North Portico.

* Expanded the West Wing Situation Room and added recording systems (later infamous).

* Built the Presidential Swimming Pool.

Jimmy Carter (1977–1981)

* Installed solar panels on the roof (later removed by Reagan).

Ronald Reagan (1981–1989)

* Installed new security systems and reinforced structural protections.

* Renovated private quarters.

🖥️ 21st Century Upgrades (2000–Present)

Bill Clinton (1993–2001)

* Added a climate control system and expanded digital infrastructure.

* Oversaw historic room refurbishments.

George W. Bush (2001–2009)

* Reinforced and upgraded security bunkers post-9/11.

* Modernized IT and communications.

Barack Obama (2009–2017)

* $375 million in West Wing refurbishments (HVAC, wiring, etc.).

* Added solar panels (re-installed).

* Updated the Situation Room.

Donald Trump (2017–2021)

* Renovated the Oval Office, restoring gold drapes and updating furniture.

* Undertook a $3.4 million West Wing renovation (carpets, HVAC, paint, etc.).

* Proposed and later funded the new $200–250 million ballroom (construction announced 2025).

🏗️ Current: Trump (2025–Present)

* The White House Ballroom Project (underway 2025) — PRIVATELY FUNDED by Trump and donors.

* First major structural addition since the Truman reconstruction.

And, there you have it. In this age of information—where all the world's knowledge is instantly available at everyone's fingertips, ignorance becomes a choice.
